The purchase of a franchise is a major life decision that affects you, your family, your lifestyle, and your finances! It’s a commitment of at least 5-years and requires a significant investment of your time on a day-to-day basis. Often, it requires a huge financial commitment that may involve a personal guarantee and an encumbrance on your primary residence (SBA loans require you to pledge your home as collateral)! It always requires a personal (and legal) commitment to your franchisor and your staff. Your customers also have expectations of you based on your offering and your brand. Consequently, selecting the right franchisor and understanding your mutual obligations is actually more important that selecting any one particular franchised business to be in.
